"The four basic operations"
  • Addition: Combines two or more numbers to find their sum or total.
    • Example: 5 + 3 = 8

  • Subtraction: Finds the difference between two numbers.
    • Example: 9 − 4 = 5



  • Multiplication: Repeatedly adds a number to itself; the result is the product.
    • Example:  4 × 2 = 8
      7×2=147 cross 2 equals 14

  • Division: Splits a number into equal parts; it is the inverse of multiplication and the result is the quotient.
    • Example:
      216÷4=54216 divided by 4 equals 54
      12 ÷ 3 = 4
